Job Description

Job Purpose

To carry out synthetic projects in the lab, contribute to a safe working environment, and maintain accurate records of all work, focusing on reproducibility and cost recording.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and organize equipment and reactions to ensure safety
  • Plan, develop, and troubleshoot complex multi-step syntheses
  • Apply expert knowledge in a variety of organic laboratory techniques, including water and oxygen sensitive chemistry, microscale manipulations, and modern organometallic methods
  • Experience in natural product extraction and photochemistry is a plus
  • Interpret spectral data independently to characterize complex products
  • Perform process development and research
  • Develop methods for separating complex mixtures using techniques like ion-exchange chromatography, reverse-phase chromatography, and automated purification
  • Manage multiple projects of varying complexity and duration

  • PhD or equivalent experience in synthetic organic chemistry
  • Strong knowledge of synthetic organic chemistry, reagents, and laboratory techniques

Role Dimensions

  • Collaborate with Lab Supervisor and team to resolve technical issues
  • Coordinate with Finished Goods & Logistics, Analytical, Maintenance & Facilities, HR, and Environmental Health & Safety departments as needed
