Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Chemical Process Design Engineer to join our client’s team in Kimberley, Northern Cape. The role combines remote workdays with essential on-site meetings and project collaborations to deliver safe, efficient and economically viable chemical processes.

You will develop PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications and participate in design reviews and HAZOP studies, collaborating with multiple engineering disciplines to drive successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

• BEng/BSc or MEng/MSc in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in chemical process design and engineering.
• Proficiency in process simulation and design software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, AutoCAD P&ID).
• Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer and reaction engineering.
• Experience in developing P&IDs and equipment specifications.
• Knowledge of process safety principles and hazard analysis techniques.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for hybrid collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual designs and feasibility studies for new chemical processes.
• Create Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Perform mass and energy balances for chemical processes.
• Size and specify process equipment including reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, and separation units.
• Utilize process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to model and optimize designs.
• Ensure designs comply with industry codes, standards, and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, civil).
• Prepare technical specifications and documentation for procurement and construction.
• Provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
• Conduct design reviews and participate in HAZOP studies.
