Job summary

LANXESS Deutschland GmbH is seeking a Process Operator to safely operate production processes in a 12-hour continental shift at the Elmira site. You will support hands-on operations within a shift team and collaborate with Maintenance, Laboratory, and Distribution teams to ensure smooth, safe production of lubricants and additives.

The role emphasizes strict adherence to safety, process clarity, and accurate blending/ labeling of finished goods, with mobility and the ability to lift up to 25 kg.

Qualifications

  • Must follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Able to report unusual conditions and maintain cleanliness.
  • Able to lift up to 25 kg and perform bending movements.
  • Experience in chemical process manufacturing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the process in the field and report unusual and unsafe conditions.
  • Identify routine maintenance requirements, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Carry out valving, piping alignments, equipment changes, and transfers in a safe and timely manner.
  • Cease equipment operation in the event of imminent hazard to equipment, environment, or personnel.
  • Participate in safety, reliability, cost and environmental improvement activities.
  • Maintain site standard operating procedures and housekeeping in the work area.

Job Highlights

As a Process Operator you will be responsible for the safe operation of production processes. You will provide hands on operating support as part of the shift team and have collaborative interactions with shift personnel as well the Maintenance, Laboratory, and Distribution departments. Major Responsibilities include

  • Monitor the process in the field and to report unusual and unsafe conditions.
  • Identify routine maintenance requirements, and troubleshoot issues.
  • Carry out required valving and piping alignments, equipment changes, preparations for maintenance, transfers of materials, chemical additions, and blends in a safe and timely manner.
  • This individual has both the authority and responsibility to cease equipment operation in the event of conditions that are of an imminent hazard to equipment, the environment, or plant personnel.
  • Participate in activities and meetings that will enhance plant safety, reliability, cost and environmental performance.
  • Demonstrate behavior consistent with site standards and coach others to do the same.
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures followed.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in their work area.
Experience / Skills

To be considered for this position, applicants should possess the following characteristics

  • Be able to pay attention to detail for blending and labeling of finished goods
  • Must be able to lift upwards of 25kgs, and have good mobility as the role involves bending, and lifting
  • Comfortable working with computers
  • Good mathematical, scientific, mechanical and logical reasoning abilities
  • Technical or vocational education preferred; Grade 12 education is a must
  • Experience in Chemical Process Manufacturing is preferred
  • Shift 12 hours continental shift schedule

The Elmira facility is a state of the art production facility used to manufacture synthetic lubricants and additives for lubricants, plastics and rubber. The Elmira site is also home to a pilot plant, which is used by our scientists and engineers to develop and test new products and production processes.

Situated on 75 acres (of which 22 acres are used for operations), the manufacturing facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our hourly employees are represented by the United Steelworkers Union.

Both sites (Elmira and West Hill) are registered under the ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 14001 environmental management standards.
