API Manufacture SME Job Description - Chemical Engineer/Filtration Engineer
Castlebar has a fantastic opportunity for someone to step into a new position. The plant has opened an expansive section of its plant for the manufacture of Liquid Icodextrin API. For this area and department to be a success, the plant is aligning an SME to work with a team of people to deliver the best results. The SME is responsible for the performance, motivation of the team and development of the process. The SME will drive efficiency by identifying improvement opportunities and delivering accurate and timely information to managers. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for your department’s performance and development in the manufacture of Critical and Life Saving Renal Solutions and products where quality and standards are at the forefront of daily activities.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify process optimization opportunities and drive various projects to achieve efficiencies.
- Understand molecular structure and behaviour of molecules and related compounds.
- Design and execute experiments to optimize filtration processes and improve product quality.
- Proficient in statistical analysis and data visualization tools to analyze and interpret data.
- Meet Safety, Quality, Cost, and Customer Service targets.
- Continuously improve set KPIs within your department.
- Develop strong working relationships with cross-functional departments (e.g., Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Finance, and Product Development) to ensure clear understanding of expectations and KPIs.
- Maintain high standards in relation to EH&S, 6S, GMP, and housekeeping of your department.
- Make effective and timely decisions on Product Rejects and Process Stops.
- Deliver accurate and timely information on department performance to Managers and communicate during Tier Meetings.
- Support project improvement activities as required.
- Represent the company during internal MOH and 3rd Party inspections.
- Write detailed and accurate Non-conformance investigation Reports (NCRs) when required.
- Provide ongoing guidance, support, and development of your team.
- Ensure the team maintains the highest standards in Product Quality, Procedures, and Specifications.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrate accountability for departmental performance.
- Drive results including Safety, Quality, Cost, and service delivery.
- Access and interpret relevant information relating to departmental performance including efficiency and overtime.
- Demonstrate strong decision-making, critical thinking, and complex problem-solving skills.
- Experience with technical systems and internal software (e.g., E-Batch, Baxu, Flash Reports, Time & Attendance) as well as Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel.
- Portray a professional and positive approach and lead by example.
- Excellent communication skills (Verbal and Written).
- Experience in a Manufacturing/Production environment and knowledge of GMP.
Education Requirements/Qualifications
- 3rd Level qualification - preferably in an Engineering – Chemical/Filtration discipline (Desirable).
