Qualifications

  • Experience teaching in chemistry laboratories.

  • Ability to demonstrate ability to create and maintain a safe workplace.
  • Competent oral presentation skills and ability to address student questions.
  • Solid understanding of physical chemistry (1st & 2nd year undergrad level).
  • Completion of Lab Safety Training (EHS), WHMIS Training (EHS), Worker Health & Safety Awareness (EHS), Accessible Service Provision (CourseLink) and Making Education Accessible (CourseLink).

Responsibilities

  • Deliver the course tutorial.
  • Conduct labs/seminars and invigilate exams.
  • Grade assignments and exams.
  • Attend mandatory meetings and meet deadlines.
  • Cover Chemistry Learning Center (CLC) shifts and provide feedback.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Applicants must:a) Be enrolled in a Chemistry graduate program;b) Have completed a B.Sc. degree in chemistry or a related field;c) Have experience teaching in chemistry laboratories;d) Be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for teaching and satisfactory teaching performance;e) Be able to demonstrate an ability to create and maintain a safe work place;f) Applicants must also have competent oral presentation skills and be comfortable presenting in front of groups;g) Have a solid understanding of physical chemistry (1st & 2nd yr undergrad level) to be able to explain concepts and address student questions;h) Applicants must be able to provide documentation indicating they have completed the following training programs: Lab Safety Training (EHS), WHMIS Training (EHS), Worker Health & Safety Awareness (EHS), Accessible Service Provision (CourseLink) and Making Education Accessible (CourseLink).Please note:By applying for this work assignment, you are agreeing to be available on campus from the start of the contract to complete all assigned duties, available to attend all mandatory meetings, complete accurate and consistent marking by assigned deadlines with written feedback, cover Chemistry Learning Center (CLC) shifts, invigilate and grade midterm exams, and be available to the end of the contract to invigilate and grade final exams. Although every effort will be made to assign TAs to their preferred days/times, we cannot guarantee to meet your preference, except for incidences when an assignment conflicts with a graduate course for which you are enrolled.Selection of successful candidates will be made in accordance with Article 11.04 of the CUPE 3913-1 collective agreement. Assignments to particular courses will be made in accordance with departmental needs and procedures.

  • Experience as a TA for CHEM*2880
  • Area of research focus should be in Physical Chemistry.
