Horizon North-Shared Spirits Joint Venture Partnership

This partnership emphasizes sustainability, cultural preservation, and community development, leveraging Horizon North’s expertise and Shared Spirits’ indigenous knowledge to generate meaningful jobs and economic benefits for partner communities.

Job Description

WHAT'S THE JOB?

The Chef oversees daily kitchen operations in a remote camp, including ordering ingredients, menu planning, food preparation, staff training, and ensuring compliance with Horizon North Food Safety protocols.

The remote work lifestyle includes amenities such as:

  • All meals and accommodations provided
  • Travel from designated locations in Winnipeg, Red Lake, and surrounding areas
  • Private room with cable TV
  • Wi-Fi access
  • Laundry facilities and detergents
  • Gym and common areas

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Supervising kitchen staff’s productivity and adherence to policies, health, safety, and quality standards
  • Training, developing, and mentoring employees
  • Preparing food following FOODSAFE and HACCP standards and safety guidelines
  • Managing resources effectively and efficiently
  • Serving clients and staff professionally and personable
  • Considering dietary restrictions, allergies, vegan, and vegetarian needs in meal planning
  • Conducting bi-weekly inventory checks

Qualifications

  • Journeyperson or interprovincial Red Seal Certificate preferred
  • Valid Safe Food certificate required
  • At least 10 years’ experience in hospitality/food service, with expertise in international and domestic cuisines
  • Knowledge of computer programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, GFS)
  • Experience in menu costing, recipe implementation, and wage control
  • Strong practical and theoretical kitchen skills across various culinary areas
  • Effective leadership, positive personality, and good listening skills
  • Physical demands include lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, standing, walking, and repetitive hand work

Work Schedule And Remuneration

Chefs work on a 3-week rotation, with remote site travel via air or ground shuttles. Night, weekend, and holiday work may be required. Wages start at $335 daily, paid daily.
