Job description

Hotel Equities, a multi-award-winning hotel development and hospitality management company, is currently searching for a remarkable Chef for the Sawridge Inn Edmonton South in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Job Purpose :

Plan and manage the kitchen staff in the procurement, production, preparation, and presentation of all food for the hotel in a safe, sanitary work environment that conforms to standards and regulations, while achieving profitable, high-quality products.

Qualifications and Requirements :

Education: High School diploma / Secondary qualification or equivalent.

  • Responsible for the long and short-term planning and daily operations of the kitchen and related areas. Recommends menu and procedural changes. Manages the budget, controlling food and labor costs within approved limits. Ensures all functions adhere to SOPs and food programs for consistent, quality products.
  • Manage Human Resources: attract, retain, motivate staff, ensure safety, hire, train, develop, coach, conduct performance reviews, resolve issues, communicate openly, and handle discipline and termination as needed.
  • Oversee procurement, production, preparation, and presentation of food in a safe, sanitary, and cost-effective manner.
  • Monitor and maintain sanitation of the kitchen, equipment, and related areas to meet or exceed health standards and regulations.
  • Develop and manage the department's budget, analyzing and controlling labor and food costs to meet management objectives.
  • Develop and implement menus within corporate guidelines to improve revenue and profit margins while maintaining quality.
  • Coordinate banquet functions with catering staff to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Assist in menu creation and updates to attract business.
  • Perform special projects and participate in committees as required.
  • Prepare food according to standard recipes and company standards to ensure quality and guest satisfaction.
  • Manage inventory, storage, and portion control to maintain quality.
  • Ensure all areas are clean and compliant with health regulations.
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
  • Handle and store food and supplies properly.
  • Coordinate with other departments and participate in hotel programs and inventories.
  • Engage in guest relations, address guest concerns proactively, and uphold professionalism and courtesy at all times.
  • Adhere to all company policies, work rules, and safety procedures.
  • Handle keys securely and be knowledgeable of emergency and security policies.
This job requires the ability to perform the following :

  • Create buffet displays and manage kitchen operations in extreme temperatures.

  • Obtain necessary licenses or permits.
