Job description

Job Description

AtkinsRéalis, a global engineering consultancy, is unifying our geospatial capability under a new Digital Practice to elevate visibility, integrate solutions (GIS + AI/BIM/LiDAR), and deliver holistic outcomes for clients. We’re hiring a GIS Practice Lead to steward strategy, people, platforms, and delivery across Canada—partnering closely with Environment, Mining, Energy, and Nuclear business lines.

Your role within the team

As a member of the Digital team, you will report to the Senior Vice-President, Capital and be responsible for:

  • Set the vision: Define and execute the Canada GIS strategy within the Digital Practice—roadmaps, capabilities, staffing, and investment.
  • Lead the team: Manage ~20 GIS professionals (mentoring, hiring, performance, career paths), fostering an inclusive, bilingual culture of excellence and safety.
  • Own platforms: Oversee ArcGIS Enterprise on Azure and AGOL—reliability, security, licensing, data governance, and standards (naming, metadata, symbology, QA/QC).
  • Deliver solutions: Stand up scalable web mapping apps, mobile data collection, automations (FME/Python), and enterprise data pipelines that serve multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Integrate “Digital by default”: Build packaged offerings that combine GIS with AI, BIM, LiDAR, hydrographic & surveying, accelerating proposal win‑rates and margin.
  • Enable workshare: Operationalize Canada-India collaboration (scope split, SLAs, QA gates, training, playbooks) to sharpen bid pricing and throughput.
  • Partner across regions: Coordinate with UK IT for cloud ops and cybersecurity; collaborate with US and Middle East peer teams on methods, tooling, and reuse.
  • Drive business outcomes: Support capture and proposals, estimate LOE, create rate cards, and track KPIs (chargeability, on-time delivery, quality, client satisfaction).
  • Champion data governance: Ensure compliance with client and Canadian data residency/privacy requirements; implement retention and access policies.
  • Improve continuously: Introduce delivery playbooks, reusable templates, CI/CD for geospatial services, and post‑project learnings.
  • Represent the practice: Act as the senior GIS voice with clients and internal stakeholders; coach PMs on where geospatial adds value.

Qualifications for the position

  • 10+ years in applied GIS delivering enterprise solutions in engineering, infrastructure, or environmental domains; 5+ years leading teams or practices.
  • Deep expertise with ArcGIS Enterprise (preferably on Azure) and ArcGIS Online: administration, security, integrations, and performance.
  • Strong knowledge of FME and/or Python/ArcGIS API/REST, mobile data collection (e.g., Field Maps/Survey123), and web mapping frameworks.
  • Proven experience building governance and standards (data models, symbology, metadata, QA/QC) in multi‑project environments.
  • Track record working in matrixed, multinational organizations and managing workshare/offshore delivery models with SLAs and quality gates.
  • Business acumen: proposal support, estimating, resourcing, KPI management (chargeability, utilization, backlog).
  • Bilingual (French & English) strongly preferred; ability to lead a majority‑francophone team and serve anglophone stakeholders.
  • Degree in Geomatics, GIS, Geography, Engineering, or related; graduate degree and/or P.Eng./ing./GISP/OIQ an asset.
  • Knowledge of Energy/Nuclear, Mining, Environment project lifecycles and associated data sensitivity/compliance is an advantage.

Nice to have

  • Azure fundamentals (AAD, VNets, security groups), DevOps concepts (CI/CD, IaC), and M365/SharePoint integration.
  • Experience integrating GIS with BIM (IFC), point clouds/LiDAR, AI/ML, and survey/hydrographic data.
  • Familiarity with Canadian and client data residency/PII requirements; export controls and background checks for sensitive sites.
