Waterfront Shipping, a joint venture entity owned by Methanex Corporation and Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, is a global marine transportation company specializing in the safe, responsible, and reliable transport of bulk chemicals and clean petroleum products to major international markets.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Commercial Director, the Chartering Manager – Atlantic is responsible for Waterfront Shipping’s tactical chartering activities in the Atlantic basin. This role is focused on identifying and contracting third-party cargo opportunities and optimizing vessel planning to minimize methanol transportation costs. This role involves securing backhaul cargo for time charter vessels as well as securing spot vessel capacity for methanol shipments as required. The incumbent must maintain strong relationships with key customers, suppliers and brokers, and stay updated on the market through reading reports and meeting with key customers and suppliers. The Chartering Manager will support establishing forward methanol and backhaul contract of affreightment targets, and be responsible for negotiating or renewing existing COA in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team to ensure global methanol movements and fleet planning is optimized.
  • Source and contract backhaul voyages for time charter vessels; source and contract vessels for methanol cargo when spot tonnage is required.
  • Ensure commercial terms on cargo fixtures are negotiated to avoid, lower, or recover costs.
  • Develop strong relationships with owners, brokers, etc. whilst also monitoring performance KPIs.
  • Regularly meet with customers and suppliers – occasional international travel required.
  • Develop KPIs to monitor performance of customers, suppliers, COA partners.
  • Stay updated on market through market reports, networking, and meetings with key contacts.
  • Work with Director to establish COA targets; proceed to negotiate COA agreements and renewals.
  • Involved with other projects and processes relating to, e.g.: annual budget, transfer pricing, global supply chain, corporate development, Marine Assurance & Responsible Care.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive roles in shipping / logistics industry, including relevant commercial / chartering experience.
  • Strong understanding of the market and dynamics of a global commodity business, up-to-date knowledge of maritime regulations and policies, and insight on players and practices.
  • University degree in an associated discipline, with solid financial acumen and ability to integrate and analyze quantitative and qualitative information to make sound decisions within high ambiguity.
  • Proven ability to skillfully negotiate contracts while maintaining effective relationships with trust and respect.
  • People builder with leadership skills to provide guidance, feedback, and coaching to teammates; ability and enthusiasm to contribute positively to team culture.

Expected Hiring Salary Range: $140,000 – $175,000 (actual salary offered will be commensurate with experience and skills).
