Job summary

Student Transportation of Canada is seeking Full-time Charter Drivers to transport clients safely and provide superior service. The role requires strong communication with drivers, maintenance, operations, and the public, with shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and overnights.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, patient, and dedicated, with a map-reading ability and a calm, helpful manner. Wage is $20.50 - $27.00 per hour, vehicle-specific, and training is provided as needed.

Qualifications

  • Class 1/2 license preferred; license upgrade training provided.
  • Possess, or be willing to obtain Q Endorsement.
  • Types of equipment driven include transit, coach and school bus; training provided.
  • Organized, punctual, and reliable.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.
  • Calm, pleasant and helpful manner.

Responsibilities

  • Complete charters as assigned and check waybills for details.
  • Drive safely; respond to all road conditions and maintain safety.
  • Ensure Hours of Service compliance and proper pre/post trip checks.
  • Maintain radio contact and proper radio protocol with dispatch.
  • Manage passenger behavior and assist with school runs when needed.
  • Fuel bus as required and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Keep units clean and submit DVCRs as required.
  • Drop off or pick up units as requested by Operations or Maintenance.

Job description

Full-time Charter Drivers are responsible for safely transporting clients and providing superior customer service. Drivers must display strong communication skills, both written and oral, in interaction with other drivers, maintenance, operations, and the public they serve. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, patient, and dedicated.

Shifts can include days, evenings, weekends and overnights.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Complete charters as assigned
  • Check the charter waybill to confirm details
  • Drive safely and responsibly; be prepared for all road conditions
  • Ensure compliance with Hours of Service
  • Manage workload - ensure all details related to the assigned charter are understood
  • Pre-and-post trip checks of the unit each time it is used
  • Complete all applicable paperwork
  • Maintain radio contact and use proper radio protocol
  • Manage passenger behavior by quickly solving problems
  • Communicate with dispatch at your scheduled time, prepared and ready to go
  • Fuel bus as required; fuel cards are assigned to the individual
  • Maintain a clean bus
  • Complete and submit DVCRs
  • Drop off or pick up units when requested by Operations or Maintenance
  • Assist with school runs, as needed
Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Class 1 or 2 driver's license preferred; will provide license upgrade training for other license classes
  • Possess, or be willing to obtain Q Endorsement
  • Types of equipment driven can include transit, coach, and school bus; training provided
  • Organized, punctual, and reliable
  • Team player with a positive attitude
