Job description

We are looking for individuals who are dynamic, committed, and possess extensive knowledge, experience, and skills to deliver SACT treatment to patients in North London with a cancer diagnosis.

We currently treat patients with solid and haemato-oncology cancers. If you are a registered nurse, band 5 or band 6, who has completed your SACT training and seeks flexibility while supporting the team to deliver SACT treatment, we invite you to apply for this position to provide compassionate care to this group of patients.

We are a busy 16-chair unit, and we are seeking individuals to support continuous service improvement.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and coordination of a group of patients within a team setting, providing safe, effective, evidence-based care with opportunities for self-development and access to training.

You must demonstrate leadership qualities, communicate clearly in a dynamic environment, support the unit in maintaining a dedicated nursing team, and have a desire to work within an Oncology, Haematology day unit setting.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide expert, holistic care of a high standard to patients receiving SACT and their relatives.
  • Ensure safe SACT delivery in accordance with national and trust guidelines on Systematic Anticancer Therapy (SACT) and cytotoxic therapy for non-cancer indications.
  • Manage a group of patients directly within the clinical area, adhering to IPC policies and procedures.
  • Act as a clinical resource within the unit, demonstrating a positive role model to junior staff and MDT members.
  • Deliver training and education to patients, junior staff, and students.
  • Ensure governance processes are followed when administering SACT.

The Helen Rollason Cancer Support Centre supports cancer patients' wellbeing. We also provide a 0-19 service for children and young people, including health visitors and school nurses.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining and developing cancer services, contributing to service improvements.
  • Act as a clinical resource and positive role model, ensuring high-quality, courteous, patient-focused service delivery while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Provide expert holistic care to patients and relatives during SACT.
  • Manage treatment reactions per trust policies.
  • Act in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct and uphold professional competence.
  • Collaborate with oncology medical staff and communicate effectively with patients and MDT members.
  • Support risk assessments and incident reporting.
  • Develop knowledge of and manage chemotherapy complications and side effects.
  • Provide timely information to patients and carers about their disease and treatments.
  • Support workload management and ensure health and safety compliance.
  • Ensure the safe use and maintenance of equipment, and manage clinical risks.
  • Record patient data accurately in electronic systems, including ChemoCcare.
  • Become proficient in peripheral cannula insertion and central venous catheter management, including chemotherapy administration after training.
  • Understand treatments used within the unit, including correct storage and handling of SACT.
