About the role

The Junior staff accountant assists the Senior Accountant with maintaining the general ledger and the reconciliation management sheet. Under the supervision of the Senior Accountant, the role contributes to various tasks, including payroll, revenue verification, and general collections, all in accordance with local and corporate policies and procedures.

What you will do
  • Assist the Senior Accountant in ensuring the effectiveness of internal controls to safeguard the hotel\'s assets and resources.
  • Maintain financial records and establish, update, and reconcile various accounts using manual or computerized bookkeeping systems.
  • Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balances, maintain general ledgers, and prepare financial statements.
  • Provide support to other department heads in matters related to revenue auditing, general cash receipts, payroll, and any other finance-related issues that may arise.
  • Participate in accounting department activities and ensure the quality and timeliness of all aspects of payroll, internal audits, and cash receipts, or any other tasks assigned by the (Senior) Accountant, Finance Manager, Assistant Director of Finance, or Director of Finance.
  • Participate in activities of other departments within the finance division.
  • Have a good understanding of the month-end process, including aiding with the preparation of financial statements, accruals and data entries, and maintaining reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts in formats established by the company and in compliance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with the (Senior) Accountant, Finance Manager, and Assistant Director of Finance in preparing budgets and forecasts.
  • Understand the current edition of USALI (Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry).
  • Take part in monthly reconciliations of all balance sheet and bank accounts, ensuring that all outstanding reconciliation items are investigated and resolved.
  • Participate in the preparation of all daily, monthly, and periodic accounting and financial reports accurately and within prescribed deadlines.
  • Assist in physical inventory counts and the verification of quantities, prices, and valuations.
  • Help ensure the security of cash assets through monthly bank reconciliations, cash counts of assigned banks including the general cashier, and report any irregularities to the Finance Manager.
  • Assist in making adjustments in the records for month-end and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support the Accountant in preparing periodic audits of vacation and medical deductions.
  • Support the Accountant in preparing working papers and backup documentation required to provide analysis and control of balance sheet and P&L accounts for internal and external audits.
  • Maintain a functional knowledge of all aspects of the finance department to ensure coverage during colleagues\' vacations or absences.
  • Be familiar with the hotel\'s records, security, retention, and destruction programs in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Ensure revenues are properly recorded and accurate daily reports are produced promptly.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the Director of Finance, Assistant Director of Finance, Finance Manager, or (Senior) Accountant.
What you bring
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a finance department, preferably in a hotel.
  • Good communications skills in French, both oral and written.
  • An advanced level of English is required to ensure oral and written communication with business partners, stakeholders, suppliers, and a predominantly international clientele.
  • Functional technical knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, with practical knowledge typically acquired on the job or through a series of professional certifications.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, along with solid business acumen.
  • Highest level of integrity and transparency.
  • Proactive mindset; strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to prepare and deliver reports, effective presentations, and facilitate meetings.
  • Ability to foster a continuous learning environment that creates opportunities for professional development.
  • Work in a safe, prudent, and organized manner.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel.
  • Knowledge of SUN and Opera systems would be ideal and highly valued.
