Position- Chaplain- Part Time

Location- Kitchener

Candidates are invited to apply for the Part-Time position of Chaplain at Forest Heights. The Chaplain acts in a supporting role to the residents, families and staff to meet the religious and spiritual needs and offers end of life spiritual care.

As a Chaplain, you will have the ability to build relationships with residents, families and staff. You understand the complexity of bio-ethical issues and work effectively within the care team. In this position, it is essential to appreciate and be able to lead a variety of faith traditions in our multicultural facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include But Are Not Limited To)

  • Functioning in a multi-faith environment the Chaplain assesses the spiritual and religious care needs and provides direct spiritual support and religious care to residents, families and staff members, ensuring access to spiritual, religious and cultural practices/rituals as appropriate or requested
  • Provides spiritual care and supportive counselling to residents, families and staff and/or makes appropriate referrals to other members or the inter-professional team or community partners
  • Ability to lead prayer groups, study groups, church services, plan celebrations and hold days for all faiths represented
  • Participates in special bereavement functions such as home wide memorial services at a minimum of quarterly
  • Documentation skills for care planning, goal setting, participation and progress note support
  • To coordinate, select, orientate and evaluate other pastoral service providers for the facility
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a degree or diploma in Divinity/Theology, Pastoral Education or a combination of Spiritual education required
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation skills
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-to-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation for both well and the cognitively impaired
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and ability to manage time effectively
  • Experience providing spiritual care in LTC setting considered an asset
  • Independent coverage for WSIB/insurance
  • This position requires successful completion of a Police Check/Vulnerable Screening Check and Medical, dated within 6 months
