Job Description:
Reporting to the Dean of Pembroke Campus, the Academic Chair is providing broad academic and instructional leadership to the diverse programs in the Department. The Chair, Health and Community Studies, ensures that the programming meets the needs of students and community partners and adheres to Industry and Ministry guidelines.
The Chair has familiarity with academic and administrative policies and the inter-relationships with college departments. With accountability for the planning, development, quality, delivery, evaluation, and financial management/viability of the Department's activities, the incumbent ensures the effective use of current pedagogical and financial practices. The incumbent will be responsible for working closely with the other departments within the College to lead and support applied research and simulation initiatives.
The incumbent conducts first-level investigations of complaints from students and staff and initiates the problem-solving process. The incumbent establishes positive working relationships with internal employees, students, and external industry and business representatives. The incumbent participates in student recruitment and College marketing efforts.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Master’s Degree in Nursing, Education, Health Administration or related field.
Minimum of nine (9) years related experience in increasingly responsible roles, including a minimum of two (2) years spent in a supervisory/management role.
Experience in managing personnel in a unionized environment.
Current College of Nurses of Ontario RN registration with no restrictions.
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching excellence and quality education, preferably within an applied post-secondary environment.
Demonstrable understanding of student engagement for the purpose of achieving student success.
Demonstrated understanding of the value and practice of applied research and simulation.
Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills that make you a consensus builder who can articulate an academic vision and execute on plans.
Demonstrated ability to speak with external groups and individuals and the ability to engage partners and other relevant organizations to enhance College operations.
Excellent group facilitation and conflict resolution skills.
Demonstrated superior organizational, planning, and financial management skills.
Demonstrated ability to engage the external community and develop partnership linkages.
This position requires regular on-site work at Algonquin College’s Pembroke Campus.
