Day Camp Coordinator

Salary: $19.95/hour - $22.17/hour
Start Date: May 20th, 2025
End Date: August 29th, 2025

Due to Camping Association Standards, counsellors must be 16 years of age or older.

What qualifications are we looking for?

Qualifications include:

  1. Completed or pursuing a degree/diploma in Recreation Therapy, Recreation Management, Physical Education/Kinesiology, Education, Communication Rehabilitation, Special Education or related education is an asset.
  2. Previous YMCA day camp or overnight camp experience is an asset.
  3. Must have previous experience working with persons with disabilities and a solid understanding of the integration process.
  4. Supervisory experience is an asset.
  5. Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider. Asset if certification is issued by one of the following five Canadian organizations: Canadian Red Cross, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lifesaving Society, St John's Ambulance and/or Canadian Ski Patrol.
  6. Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
  7. Three professional references.
What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Reporting to the Day Camp Supervisor, the Day Camp Coordinator will:

  1. Hire, train and provide coaching and performance management for day camp counsellors.
  2. Supervise and evaluate all Day Camp Counsellors on an ongoing basis; support counsellors with pre-summer goal setting, and mid/end-of-summer performance evaluations.
  3. Complete on-site field trip hazard assessments, field trip scheduling and bussing bookings.
  4. Manage and purchase equipment and supply inventories.
  5. Assist with program registration for Day Camps and provide support for medical forms and parent communication.
  6. Collaborate with representatives that the branch to organize space booking and schedules for Day Camps.
  7. Ensure that YMCA Camp Counsellors are providing safe and engaging programs while following YMCA policies and procedures; assist with daily camp duties, camper supervision, be in ratio, and perform site maintenance.
  8. Demonstrate role model behavior when dealing with staff, campers, and members.
  9. Facilitate communication with counsellors, parents, campers, branch staff, and the Day Camp Manager; respond to parent/guardian concerns in a professional manner.
  10. Complete all required administrative tasks including organizing rosters and medical forms.
  11. Plan and implement weekly staff meetings; complete biweekly counselor schedules for Day Camp Counsellors.
  12. Attend all meetings and in-services and play an active role in regional training for Day Camp Counsellors.
