Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of a CNA is to ensure residents receive care through tasks such as:

  • Assisting residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care, and dressing.
  • Feeding residents, providing bedside water, snacks, and transferring residents as needed, in compliance with nutritional plans.
  • Responding promptly to call lights and resident requests, following facility policy.
  • Maintaining resident rooms by making beds, changing linens, cleaning bedside tables, and organizing belongings.
  • Observing and reporting changes in residents' appetite, skin condition, or behavior.
  • Offering emotional support and actively listening to residents to build trust and promote independence.
  • Protecting resident confidentiality and privacy at all times.
  • Documenting care provided, including vitals and assistance, according to facility policy.
  • Adhering to safety, infection control, and cleanliness standards.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED (or working under a student permit).
  • Certified by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) as a CNA in good standing. CNAs transferring from other states may work up to 120 days while awaiting Indiana certification. Graduating CNA students not yet certified may also work for 120 days.
  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with programs like Excel and Word.

Additionally, candidates should understand safe nursing practices within Indiana, possess interpersonal skills, and demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and patience in resident care.
