Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of a CNA is to ensure residents receive proper care through tasks such as:
- Assisting residents with bathing, toileting, oral hygiene, skin care, grooming, nail care, and dressing.
- Feeding residents, providing bedside water, snacks, and transferring residents as needed, in line with nutritional plans.
- Responding promptly to resident call lights and requests for assistance.
- Maintaining resident rooms by making beds, changing linens, cleaning bedside tables, and organizing belongings.
- Observing and reporting any changes in residents' appetite, skin condition, or behavior.
- Providing emotional support and active listening to foster trust and independence.
- Protecting resident confidentiality and privacy at all times.
- Documenting medical information, vitals, and assistance provided in accordance with policies.
- Following safety procedures, infection control, and maintaining a clean environment.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED, unless under a student permit.
- Certification by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) as a CNA in good standing. CNAs transferring from another state may work for 120 days while awaiting Indiana certification. Graduating CNA students not yet certified may also work for 120 days.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Excel, Word, etc.
- Understanding of safe and effective nursing practices within Indiana.
- Interpersonal skills including:
- Assisting licensed nurses with procedures within the scope of practice;
- Following written and verbal instructions, working independently, and making decisions;
- Dealing tactfully with residents, families, visitors, and staff;
- Working harmoniously with team members;
- Prioritizing tasks according to standards and policies;
- Protecting confidentiality and complying with HIPAA;
- Patience, enthusiasm, and a mature approach to resident care;
- Adhering to professional ethics;
- Communicating resident conditions effectively to staff.
