Overview

The Medical Assistant works under the supervision of physicians and clinical leaders, recognizing patient needs and providing care accordingly. Responsibilities include preparing patients for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests, recording treatments, and explaining instructions to patients and families. The role requires serving patients of all ages and may involve duties in front office, laboratory testing, and radiology within a specialty setting.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Register patients, prepare equipment and rooms, assist with treatments, perform vitals, and rotate through clinical and non-clinical areas.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging procedures, ensure proper techniques, and maintain logs and quality control.
  • Conduct laboratory tests, draw blood, perform point-of-care testing, and maintain supplies and documentation.
  • Provide patient-centered care, respecting cultural diversity and involving patients and families in care planning.
  • Coordinate care delivery with team members, ensuring safety and quality standards.
  • Engage in professional development, serve as a preceptor, and promote evidence-based practices.
  • Support resource planning and protocol development for optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; graduation from an accredited medical assistant program preferred.
  • Experience in a practice setting preferred; radiology and phlebotomy experience advantageous.
  • Must hold or be willing to obtain BLS certification, and pass a Medical Assistant credentialing exam (AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT).
  • Strong organizational skills, communication skills in English, and basic computer proficiency required.
