Job description

Certified Dental Assistant

BC Cancer

Surrey, BC

The Certified Dental Assistant participates in the management of patients with medical compromise by performing related booking, chair-side, and clerical duties.

What you'll do
  1. Perform all chair-side duties of a dental assistant, maintain infection control, make impressions for gel carriers, construct and fit custom gel carriers, instruct patients on their use, fabricate bite blocks and gingival protectors for radiotherapy, and provide home care instructions.
  2. Manage patients with medical compromise, coordinate dental clinic bookings, assist the Dentist with patient screening and dental needs assessment, prioritize dental visits, schedule appointments by contacting medical and dental offices and labs, and arrange patient appointments.
  3. Apply topical chemotherapy.
  4. Communicate with medical and dental staff to adjust appointment schedules without jeopardizing patient care.
  5. Maintain statistical records of procedures performed and submit summaries.
What you bring

Qualifications:

  1. Graduation from a recognized Certified Dental Assistant program.
  2. One year of recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  3. Current registration with the College of Dental Surgeons of B.C.
  4. Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of settler colonialism and systemic racism on Indigenous Peoples, with a commitment to anti-racism and cultural safety.
  5. Knowledge of legislative obligations and provincial commitments related to Indigenous health and anti-racism policies.

  1. Understanding of Indigenous-specific and systemic racism, with leadership in fostering an environment of belonging and cultural safety.
  2. Knowledge of social, economic, political realities affecting Indigenous Peoples and familiarity with related legislative commitments.
