Job summary

sci in Toronto is seeking a Crematory Operator apprentice to join our team. You will handle the cremation process with dignity, receive remains, and ensure all documentation is complete and compliant with regulations.

The role requires a high school diploma and 1–3 months of apprenticeship, plus certification as a Crematory Operator and a valid driver’s license for removals and transfers. You will maintain logs, uphold safety, and perform maintenance tasks at the facility.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a formal program at a college or technical school specializing in funeral service or mortuary science where required by state law.
• Minimum one to three months experience as an apprentice.
• Certified Crematory Operator as required by province law; valid driver's license required if performing removals and transfers of bodies and delivering cremated remains.
• Familiar with basic operation of industrial equipment including basic trouble-shooting skills.
• Basic computer skills and ability to maintain accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

• Cares for deceased in a respectful manner while performing cremation tasks.
• Receives remains and ensures all documentation is complete with visual identification.
• Completes documentation for cremation process and equipment maintenance.
• Adheres to licensing authority regulations related to cremation of human remains.
• Maintains company logs and state-specific reports; ensures chain of custody paperwork.
• Promotes safety via universal precautions and safe conduct.
• Maintains crematorium and equipment; may deliver remains to funeral home or authority.
• Other duties as directed by management.
