Accountability Objective

Are you passionate about preparing fresh foods, innovating delicious cuisines, and presenting artfully crafted meals? Our cooks play a critical role in enriching the lives of our residents through a welcoming dining experience. Under the direction of the Dining Services Manager or designate, the cook is responsible for food preparation, plating attractive and nutritious meals, and maintaining a clean, sanitary kitchen in accordance with regulations.

Background/Qualifications
  • Minimum of grade 12 education required.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in large volume food cooking, preparation, and plating techniques.
  • Graduate of a recognized college food preparation program and Certified Red Seal certificate. Valid regional food handler’s certificate required.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with computerized online ordering systems.
  • Strong knife skills, preparation skills, and basic baking skills.
  • Dependable, responsible, team player, and able to work independently. Positive attitude essential.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement standards.
  • Prepare and cook food for residents and guests, ensuring adherence to sanitation, safety, and dietary restrictions.
  • Assist in training staff involved in food prep and service. Supervise meal prep in the absence of managers.
  • Follow infection control protocols.
  • Manage inventory, receive orders, and ensure availability of ingredients.
  • Assist in food purchasing and forecasting.
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen and equipment.
  • Conduct food temperature checks and document properly.
  • Prepare snack trays for daily functions.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and residents, addressing concerns appropriately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies, complete mandatory training, and adhere to safety legislation.
