Job description

SAIT’s Athletic and Recreation department is a vital part of the SAIT experience, supporting Trojans athletes across various sports. SAIT Recreation's programs and facilities promote active and healthy lifestyles for students, staff, alumni, and the public.

The Opportunity

The Certified Athletic Therapist will provide medical coverage during Trojans game days and in the Athletic Therapy clinic as needed, ensuring the safety of student athletes, staff, and spectators.

The Role

  • Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Act as a Leader, Instructor, Guide, Senior Advisor, and Key Point of Contact
Teach classes tailored to all fitness levels, including:
  • Certified Group Cycling Instructor
  • Certified TRX and Kettlebell Instructor
  • Certified BARRE Instructor
  • Certified Yoga/Tai Chi/Zumba Instructor
  • Certified Squash/Racquetball/Table Tennis Instructor
  • Certified Team Sport Fitness/Lifting/Power Lead or Coach
  • Other trending or emergent instructor roles

Be the key contact for program delivery, safety, or officiating:
  • Intramural Referee or Drop-in Sport Attendant
  • Certified Sport Referee
  • Skating Instructor
  • Certified Sport Skills Coach

Be the key contact for emergency response, injury assessment, or return-to-play decisions:
  • Certified Athletic Therapist
  • First Aid and CPR provider/coverage in the Taping Room

Environmental Preparedness and Transition
  • Update class curricula and maintain equipment and spaces
  • Complete game sheets, attendance, and access controls
  • Handle program clean-up, inventory, and equipment stocking

Progress Reporting, Assessment, and Adaptation
  • Evaluate participant needs and adapt accordingly
  • Complete post-event reports and impact assessments
  • Follow-up with clients and submit required documentation

Health, Safety, and Environment
  • Ensure participant safety and address safety concerns
  • Follow campus HSE regulations and address behavioral concerns
  • Intervene and observe program behaviors and reactions

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • Certified Instructor, Official, or Athletic Therapist (CAA) certification
  • Certifications in AFLCA, TRX, Kettlebell, BARRE, or equivalent
  • Official certifications for Hockey, Basketball, Volleyball, or Soccer (Level I)
  • Valid CPR Level C and First Aid
  • Participant-related experience
  • Currently enrolled in an internship program

Qualifications & Experience Preferred

  • Advanced certifications, diploma, or degree in Kinesiology preferred
  • 1-2 years coaching, instructing, or officiating experience
  • Respect in Sport or equivalent, Sport Officiating Level II preferred
