Shared Health leads the planning and coordinates the integration of patient-centered clinical and preventive health services across Manitoba. The organization also delivers some province-wide health services and supports centralized administrative and business functions for Manitoba health organizations.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of Patient Care, the incumbent is responsible for:

  • Slating Elective Operating Room (OR) procedures via the Surgical Information Management System (SIMS) for the Adult and Children’s sites with validated PART booking requests.
  • Prints all available PART booking requests in advance to submit to Clinical System Coordinator for validation at the Adult site.
  • Receives validated booking cards from the Children’s site for data entry into SIMS.
  • Able to work in a variety of clinical applications to retrieve data to support the ongoing work in SIMS, including Patient Access Registry Tool (PART), Ventis (Anesthesia Scheduling System) and the Electronic Patient Record (EPR).
  • Acting as a resource (for OR staff, Physicians, Patients, Admitting, Managers of Patient Care and various committee work) regarding OR slating processes and the slating application in SIMS.
  • Orientating new staff to the elective slating functions (repetitive work and volume).
  • Print the daily internal slate and Doctor Preference Cards to submit to the Charge Nurse of the day to the Adult site before 1000 each day (AOR only).
  • Providing ongoing evaluation and monitoring of the slating functions in SIMS, and troubleshooting potential problems.
  • Acting as a liaison with staff from Medical Information/eHealth/Program teams in the resolution of OR slating issues.
  • Maintaining a commitment to ensuring standardization in slating practices.

Experience

  • Two years previous experience in an OR environment required.
  • Previous experience slating procedures via computerized or manual system required.

Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)

  • Complete high school education, Manitoba standards, required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Unit Clerk training program required.
  • Certificate/Diploma in Computer Applications from a recognized college preferred.

  • Medical Terminology [pass mark 75%] required.
  • Knowledge of International Classification of Disease 10th preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a Windows based environment (basic level) required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) at a basic level required.
  • Preference will be given to those applicants competent in an Indigenous language and/or knowledge in Indigenous customs, traditions and values.
  • Must communicate fluently in written and spoken English.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills required.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer technology to report and present data.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all stakeholders required.

Physical Requirements
