Job summary

The Government of Nova Scotia is looking for a part-time Librarian to manage and organize the School Library at Amherst Regional High School. The ideal candidate will hold a Master of Library and Information Studies and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Qualifications

  • Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.

School Hours: 8:45am-2:55PM

Assignment Hours: 8:50am-2:55pm

Days: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri

Status: Regular Part-time

Percentage: 10%

Months: 10

Salary: In accordance with the NSGEU Collective Agreement

Introduction

Reporting to the School Principal(s), the Librarian will be responsible for organizing, planning, and managing the School Library within designated schools.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution.
Additional Assets
  • Experience and enthusiasm working with children and/or young adults.
  • Knowledge of literature for children and/or young adults.
  • Ability to apply in-depth subject knowledge acquired at the undergraduate level.
  • Ability to model strategies for locating, assessing, and evaluating information within and beyond the school library.
  • Vision and demonstrated ability to create a functional learning environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective interaction with all staff and students.
  • Ability to lead a team and work collaboratively, providing support as needed.
  • Proficiency in performing multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to work independently in a position of trust.
