Responsibilities
- Independently underwrite and price light to moderate business in accordance with corporate, divisional and department guidelines and philosophy.
- Underwrite new and renewal business, including risk and coverage analysis and pricing, and provide recommendations for proposed terms within delegated underwriting authority.
- Review underlying policies, contract and endorsement wording to ensure accuracy and conformance with guidelines.
- Refer all business outside of delegated underwriting authority to appropriate referral underwriter.
- Develop and maintain client relationships and develop new sources of business.
- Provide responsive service on all broker and direct client requests.
- Monitor profitability of assigned clients and brokers; develop strategies or action plans to propose corrective actions as needed.
- Promote the Group’s capabilities externally.
- Demonstrate negotiation skills and the ability to influence internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrate proficiency in pricing models, tools and other risk evaluation models.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary education with a focus on business.
- CIP / FCIP / CRM designation or progression toward would be an asset.
- 1 to 5 years of experience underwriting primary or excess casualty insurance, preferably with a focus on large commercial and risk-managed clients.
- High degree of drive, self-motivation, continuing development and ability to work independently.
- Strong analytical, negotiating and investigative competencies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong collaboration and team-building skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing environments and situations.
- Strong computer skills, specifically with MS Office.
- Ability and willingness to travel.
