ROLE PURPOSE

Our Supportive Housing program provides safe and secure housing and wraparound support to people at risk of, or experiencing, homelessness. This program offers 24/7 support services that are tailored to the self-identified needs and goals of each resident.

WORK HOURS

The casual position candidate should be able to confirm availability for 21 shifts (7 days) per month (7 overnight), or 15shifts (5 days) per month (5 overnight) - if holding a FT job or student.

Note: The actual number of shifts will depend on Organizational needs.

*Benefits are for Full-Time and Part-Time employees working 20 hours per week or more

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Participates in the assessment, goal setting, and program planning - such as Personal Service Plans - for individuals living semi independently. Documents and implements the plan and provides input into the evaluation of the program.
  • Evaluates client needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of residents and their families.
  • Works directly with additional staff (i.e., Social Workers and Outreach Workers), community service and support providers, government and non-government organizations, and First Nations service providers to inform the development and implementation of individual support plans consistent with harm reduction and Connective’s philosophies and practices.
  • Assists residents to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists residents with daily life skills, social skills, and/or behaviour management. Nurtures opportunities and assists residents with activities such as grooming, basic cooking, money management, shopping, household safety, and pet care. Facilitates physical, recreational, educational, social, and vocational activities.
  • Recognizes, analyzes, and deals with potential emergency situations such as aggressive behaviour(s) to minimize potential harm to others and/or the public.
  • Administers medication to residents in accordance with established policy.
  • Ensures health and safety standards are maintained.
  • Maintains oversight of the building as required to mitigate conflict amongst residents and/or other persons accessing the property.
  • Completes regular and routine walk-through checks of the property and immediately surrounding area.
  • Reviews and evaluates residents’ progress and adjusts programs as required. Provides feedback and support to residents and/or their families.
  • Accompanies and/or transports clients to activities such as appointments, shopping, or leisure activities.
  • Maintains/provides either written and/or verbal reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress in accordance with policy and standards. Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENRS

  • Demonstrated ability to respond efficiently in crisis and escalated situations
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Persons Criminal Records Check
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements

COMPENSATION

As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $25.95 per hour plus 10.6% in lieu of vacation pay and benefits (for casual positions). The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $29.76 per hour.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
