South Shore Regional Centre for Education

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices the culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, an area of 5,250 square kilometres and a total of 23 schools.

Casual Teacher Assistant

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education is currently accepting applications for casual Teacher Assistants interested in working in all schools in Lunenburg and Queens Counties.

Candidates must be willing and available to work, on a casual basis, in one or more of the schools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Post secondary training in health or education, or a Community College Diploma in Human Services (with an Educational Support concentration), Public School Program Support Assistant (PSPA) certificate, FEDS Diploma and/or experience working as a Teacher Assistant.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working with students on individualized program and behaviour modification plans.
  • Experience working with students with other exceptionalities.
  • Knowledge of assistive and supportive technologies.
  • Current first aid certification.
  • Vulnerable Sector Check/Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Check (clear and completed within the last 3 months).
