Job description

Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) provides service to approximately 6,100 students in Junior Kindergarten through Grade 12 in 34 schools and is one of the largest employers in the Grande Prairie/Spirit River region.

The Peace Wapiti Public School Division is seeking a Casual Summer Student - Mental Health Capacity Building Wellness Coach to provide mental health promotion and prevention to youth and families. Working as part of a team, this position develops and delivers developmentally appropriate, evidence-based programming that focuses on increasing knowledge, building skills and fostering abilities that enable others to better their own mental health and wellness.

This is a casual position for the time period of June 23, 2025 to August 22, 2025. It will include delivering programs in communities throughout the Division.

Responsibilities Include

  • Developing and facilitating outdoor recreation and art-based programming that is connected to mental health and wellness
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships and act as a connection to mental health subject matter experts for youth, parents and community partners
  • Helping to identify and facilitate access for individuals who need referral to specialized addiction and mental health services
  • Provide opportunities to engage in healthy activities and interactions through planned community activities and events

Desirable Assets Include

  • Knowledge of addiction and mental health
  • Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children, youth and families
  • Experience with delivering programming and comfortable with public speaking
  • Strong relationship building skills

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children and youth in a group setting.
  • Working towards, or completed, a related post-secondary degree or diploma in social sciences or education.
  • Other combinations of education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform in the position may be considered.
  • Successful applicants require a personal vehicle and Driver's License for travel to/from program sites. Mileage reimbursement is as per Division Policy.

The wage for this position is $23.60 per hour. Employees will also receive 6% vacation pay in lieu of paid vacation time.
