Job summary

School District 60 in Fort St. John, BC, is hiring casual School Bus Drivers to transport students on scheduled and non-scheduled trips. Positions are dispatched as needed, with a base year of ten months and a starting wage of $29.82/hr.

Duties include safe driving, inspections, safety drills, and student registration support. Reporting to the Transportation Supervisor, successful candidates will have a Grade 10 or equivalent, a Class 2 licence with Air Brakes, and a clean driving abstract.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 or equivalent.
• Minimum Class 2 Driver's Licence with Air Brakes endorsement.
• Clean Driver's Abstract.
• 2 years recent (within 5 years) bus driving experience preferred.
• WHMIS certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period.
• Other safety training/certificates as provided by the District to be completed as needed.
• Must pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment.
• Ability to manage difficult conversations in a professional manner.
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Safely operates school buses of different sizes and types under varied road and weather conditions to transport students.
• Performs daily pre- and post-trip inspections and records findings.
• Reports mechanical or safety defects to supervisor/dispatcher/foreman.
• Familiarizes students with safety regulations and conducts emergency evacuation drills as directed.
• Maintains student discipline and reports issues to supervisor.
• Assists with student registration and prepares a temporary list and road map of bus routes.
• Keeps bus clean and sanitary; disinfects interior weekly.
• Administers minor first aid.
• Follows safety rules and ensures worksite and equipment safety.
• Ensures safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and safe use of tools.
• Informs supervisors of vandalized equipment or property.
• Follows Motor Vehicle Act Legislation.
• Performs other duties assigned by Transportation Supervisor.
