Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

General Information

The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for casual Recycling Facility Attendant I opportunities in the Recycling & Waste Management Division within the Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Solid Waste Operations and supervised by the Recycling Facility Attendant V or Recycling Facility Attendant IV (as applicable) the Recycling Facility Attendant I contributes to the effective operation of CVRD Recycling facilities by primarily assisting the public in depositing their waste and recyclables in the appropriate area(s), performing tasks to ensure those materials and the overall facility are well maintained in order to provide a safe and convenient environment, and by providing relief support to other facility team staff.

Qualifications
  • Secondary School graduation or equivalency
  • Keyboarding and basic office equipment training
  • A minimum of one year of experience working in an industrial workplace including around traffic and industrial equipment
  • Experience in customer relations and conflict management
  • Experience with data entry and computer systems
  • Demonstrated Skid Steer operation experience
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Basic First Aid Certificate (previously First Aid Level 1)
  • Skid Steer Operator Safety Training certificate from a qualified instructor – employer provided
  • Traffic Control Persons training – employer provided
  • WHMIS – employer provided

Hours of Work

This casual opportunity has no guaranteed hours of work per week. Shifts are scheduled based on operational need. The successful applicant must be available a minimum of 2 days per week, and be able to work a flexible schedule that includes a variety of days and hours per week.

Salary

This position is unionized (USW Local 1-1937) with aStep 1 wage rate of $28.57 per hour and a Step 2 wage rate of $30.25 per hour (2023 wage rates), plus an additional 14% in lieu of vacation, benefits and stat holidays.

*Note: 2025 wage rates are still being negotiated.
