Casual Print Office & Studio Technician (Artists for Kids)

THE ROLE
This is customer service, receptionist and technical work in the area of fine arts with some variety in performing duties. An employee of this class acts as a technician to the print office and studio supporting programming. After initial instructions and orientation, work is performed in accordance with established methods and procedures, under direction, in which some independence of action and judgement is exercised in the more routine aspects of the work. Unusual or difficult problems are referred to a supervisor who checks and reviews work performance in terms of conformance with established policy and procedures and effective services rendered.
Required Knowledge, Abilities And Skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Artist for Kids Director, Program Facilitator and students in providing assistance and support related to visual arts programming.
- Sound knowledge of the functions, rules, and regulations governing applicable departmental operations and activities.
- Sound knowledge of visual arts programming and the operation of a variety of studio equipment.
- Sound knowledge of art materials and tools.
- Sound knowledge of health and safety standards including WHMIS regulations, as applicable.
- Sound knowledge of computer operation and the software applications necessary to maintain and produce a variety of materials.
- Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
- Sound knowledge of business English, spelling, punctuation, and mathematics.
- Ability to perform set up, cleaning and maintenance of tools and materials in accordance with prescribed methods and procedures.
- Ability to operate a press, kiln and other studio tools and equipment as applicable.
- Ability to operate a computer and software necessary to prepare, maintain and produce a variety of materials and update website.
- Ability to operate a variety of general office equipment.
DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of the 12th grade or equivalent, supplemented by up to one-year post-secondary training in Fine Arts, and/or post-secondary training in computer and software applications such as Scholantis and InDesign. Up to two years related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
This is a unionized position, and the current rate of pay is $ 31.43 plus 14% in lieu of benefits.
