Job Summary
This position provides support to the assigned technology program with primary responsibilities including lab setup, inventory management, lab safety inspections, maintenance and repair, ordering, purchasing, disposing, and reconciliations. The incumbent is responsible for communicating and working collaboratively with program instructors, supervisors, and college staff to ensure the delivery of quality, timely, and reliable support for student success.
Specific Duties
- Analyze, design, document, and develop training aids based on specifications prepared by departmental faculty to support courses, laboratory assignments, and departmental operations.
- Perform configuration and routine maintenance tasks related to program training aids.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to lab systems, software, hardware, and other training aids, investigating thoroughly to identify root causes and implementing solutions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct daily lab inspections in designated program areas to identify and rectify issues, maintaining a safe working environment in accordance with WorkSafe BC, WHMIS, and college policies.
- Provide prompt support to faculty and students for laboratory-related issues, ensuring the smooth operation of training aids.
- Maintain accurate records of issues, resolutions, and troubleshooting steps; document procedures and solutions for future reference and training.
- Manage inventory processes, including receiving, inspecting, sorting, stocking, and disposing of tools, equipment, and consumables, and updating the college inventory system accordingly.
- Support lab components by ensuring availability of consumables, preparing and relocating training aids and equipment, and managing specialized tools to prevent double booking.
- Create work order requests for maintenance issues using college software and procedures.
- Provide brief supervisory support to students for safety purposes only.
- Participate in departmental meetings to contribute to workshop and procedural improvements.
- Coordinate with internal and external suppliers regarding repairs and warranty issues.
- Liaise with other college departments as needed.
- Contribute to the college's vision, mission, and goals, supporting learners and community needs.
- Promote a positive work environment and communicate professionally with students and colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designate.
Skills & Qualifications
- Recognized two-year diploma in a relevant field of study.
- Program-specific qualifications such as CompTIA A+ and CCNA for Information Technology & Networking (ITAN).
- At least two years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving technical issues related to program technologies; high skill level with Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of applicable software and hardware for program delivery.
- Awareness of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
- Effective time management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with a willingness to share knowledge and contribute to project success.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts clearly and concisely.
Program Specific Credentials
Civil Engineering program: Forklift training is required or must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
