Job summary

Extendicare in Calgary is seeking a Health Care Aide to support residents in our long-term care home on a part-time basis. The role focuses on assisting with ADLs, maintaining independence, and contributing to individualized care plans.

Requirements include a Health Care Aide certificate and English literacy; reliability and the ability to work with residents with complex medical needs, including dementia experience, are valued. We value teamwork and compassionate, inclusive care.

Qualifications

• Health Care Aide certificate from a recognized program and registered on the HCA Directory.
• Ability to read and write; understand verbal and written English.
• Reliability in carrying out commitments with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge/experience with residents with complex medical needs.
• Experience in general and dementia programs is an asset.
• Promoting resident independence is expected.
• Capable of busy assignments with multiple mechanical lifts.
• Participates in Care Planning to meet residents' needs.
• Develops positive relationships with families and staff.
• Flexible and maintains good attendance; completes annual education.
• Strong customer focus with reliable attendance.

Responsibilities

• Directly accountable to the Clinical Manager under the nurse's direction.
• Assist residents to maintain independence and provide ADL support as directed.
• Perform duties per health and safety regulations, policies and procedures.
• Participate in program activities and best practice initiatives; develop action plans.
• Attend mandatory education and pursue self-development opportunities.
