We are looking for Casual part-time English as a Second Language Instructors to support our Summer ESL day Deaf program. This position reports to the Manager, Continuing & Community Education in collaboration with an ESL Coordinator in the program.

Duration: July 7 - July 24th

Schedule : Monday to Thursday, 9:00am - 12:00pm noon (4 days per week, 3 hours per day), in person class

Location: St Joseph Adult School, 330 Lajoie Street, Vanier, ON

Qualifications

  • Degree in ASL or diploma in sign language interpreting
  • Lived experience in the Deaf community
  • Proficiency of the English language and proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Experience in working with adults who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Valid TESL Ontario Certification in teaching English as a Second Language or TESL Canada certification in teaching English as a Second Language preferred (we may also consider applicants who may be currently in an accredited TESL program but not yet graduated, if they meet the other requirements or those who are willing to pursue a TESL certificate)
  • The ability to work cooperatively as a team member in a multicultural environment, and experience working in settlement or with newcomers to Canada
  • Experience working with computers/technology in the classroom
  • Familiarity with or using Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and/or Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA), an advantage
  • Demonstrated acceptable equivalency in education or experience as determined by the Board will be considered

The salary for this position is $33.09 an hour (plus 4% vacation pay and 3.8% statutory holiday pay).

The start date is as soon as possible.
