Position Summary

The Companion works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or designee and provides direct observation and companionship to clients in their home.

Qualifications

• Be eighteen (18) years of age.
• Demonstrate ability to read, write, follow a written Aide Care Plan, and document tasks performed.
• Be self-directed and work with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate dependability, tact, patience, and the ability to follow instructions.
• Demonstrate good interpersonal communication skills.
• Show compassion and empathy toward the elderly, sick, and disabled.
• Have a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a reliable car.

Essential Functions/Areas Of Accountability

Functions within the limitations of the individual assignment. Services may include supervision and companionship activities that promote the client’s wellbeing. Companion services typically do not involve hands-on care such as bathing and dressing.

• Attend to the client's requests promptly.
• Provide companionship, socialization, and light housekeeping services.
• Assist with food preparation when included on the Aide Care Plan.
• Follow infection control policies including proper hand washing techniques.
• Maintain communication with the Clinical Supervisor and interdisciplinary team.
• Document care given and observations accurately as directed by the Aide Care Plan.
• Treat clients and families with respect and maintain confidentiality.
• Accept and fulfill assignments with the Agency, exercising judgment in accepting assignments.
• Attend required in-service programs per Agency policy.
