Job description

The Big White Ski & Board School is seeking CASI Level 3+ instructors for our GAP and Staff Trainer positions. We are seeking experienced instructors, with a preference given to candidates holding their CASI Evaluator certification (Level 1 or higher), to join our team as Snowboard GAP/Staff Trainer. If you aspire to be part of a strong team of Ski and Snowboard trainers, we want you to join our team for the winter season. This seasonal, full-time position requires working five or more days a week, as needed, to meet business demands.

Trainers will be responsible for providing training on the following Ski & Board programs:

  1. GAP training program: Our GAP programs run from mid-January to the third week of March, Monday to Friday. Being assigned to this program, the trainer’s day consists of up to seven (7) hours per day. The role of the GAP program is to train the participants using the CASI methodology for teaching and snowboarding. The participants are trained to meet the standards required to complete the CASI Level 1 and 2 courses.
  2. In-house staff training: The Ski & Board School’s in-house training program runs throughout the season, six days a week, and includes a combination of training sessions, mentorship, and lesson shadowing. Training sessions aim to enhance the quality of the products that our instructors deliver to our clients. We focus on developing our instructors’ teaching and snowboarding skills so that our clients receive the best possible lessons.

Additional duties and responsibilities include:

  • Teach adult & kid snowboard lessons in group and private settings using the CASI teaching methodology and following Big White Ski & Board School’s progression levels.
  • Teaching clients and demonstrating quality lessons relevant to the ability level of your students.
  • Evaluating lesson participants and completing achievement records where necessary.
  • Always working with safety in mind to safeguard guests and fellow workers.
  • Planning lesson content to create a safe and fun learning experience.
  • Evaluating instructors’ lessons where scheduled, providing written and verbal feedback for staff evaluations.
  • Ensuring effective public relations and problem-solving as required.
  • Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing communication with other program trainers and Ski & Board School Staff.
  • Work with the Technical Director to aid in the development and improvement of the training program.
  • Taking appropriate action to deal with incidents and emergencies, as outlined in the Ski & Board School’s policies and procedures.
  • Attending all paid training sessions.
  • Acting as a role model for the Ski & Board School instructors and fostering an approachable, open level of communication.
  • Assisting with promoting Ski & Board School programs.

Position requirements:

  • Previous experience with delivering training for staff or GAP participants in a Ski & Snowboard school environment.
  • Have and will attend evaluator training as required by CASI.
  • Three or more seasons of previous ski instructing experience working in organized settings are definite assets.

All applicants should submit a cover letter and resume, along with two contactable references and a copy of relevant current certifications. Preference will be given to those who also have:

  • CASI Level 1 Evaluator or above.
  • Level 3 or higher or international equivalent certifications.
  • Experience in teaching adults and children.
  • Experience in leadership or mentor roles.

Starting wage: $28.00 to $36.00, plus sales incentives, with increases dependent on further relevant instructional certifications and time-based accruals.

Target start date: mid-December.
