Job summary

Dentons Canada in Toronto is seeking a Cash Application Specialist for a 6-month contract, a hybrid role with in-office presence and hours 9:30 am–5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. You will manage cash receipts for Dentons Canada offices and report to the Cash Application Supervisor.

Some overtime may be required during month-end. Ideal candidate has 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services, and familiarity with Elite 3E, Elite Enterprise, Aderant, NetSuite

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in accounting and strong knowledge of general procedures.
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services is an asset.
  • Strong numeric and problem-solving skills; proficient with MS Office.
  • Discretion, integrity and ability to handle confidential matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

  • Allocate cheques and coordinate deposits to the bank.
  • Allocate wires and direct deposits to invoices.
  • Investigate and process refunds to clients for overpayments.
  • Process credit card payments.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Provide backup support within the Finance Department and Toronto office.
  • Handle other special projects as required.

POSITION OVERVIEW

We have an immediate opening for a Cash Application Specialist within our Toronto office for an up to 6 months contract role. This position reports to the Cash Application Supervisor and will be responsible for cash receipts functions for all Dentons Canada offices. This role is a hybrid position requiring some in-office presence and scheduled to work 9:30 am- 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday. During month-end periods, some overtime and flexibility may be required to meet demands of the role. Discretion, confidentiality and attention to detail are essential to this position and required at all times.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Allocate cheques and coordinate deposit to bank.
  • Responsible for allocating wires and direct deposits to invoices.
  • Investigate and process any refunds to clients for overpayments.
  • Process credit card payments.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries.
  • Provide assistance/backup support as required to others in the Finance Department and within the local Toronto office as required.
  • Other special projects as required.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 4 years of experience and strong working knowledge of general accounting procedures.
  • Previous experience in a law firm or professional services environment is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Elite 3E or similar accounting software (Elite Enterprise, Aderant, NetSuite, SAP) is preferable.
  • Strong mathematical and problem solving skills are necessary.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite.
  • Demonstrates tact and discretion, sound judgment and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive and confidential matters.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Commitment to privacy and ethical conduct with a strong ability to ensure all firm policies and control procedures are met.
  • Superb organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently and effectively with individuals at all levels within a team-oriented environment.
  • Able to meet deadlines, work well under pressure and prioritize work.
  • Proven track record of being adaptable to change in a fast-paced, ever changing environment.

The target salary range for this position is $55,000 to $60,000, commensurate with the successful candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
