John Howard Society of Saskatchewan is seeking a Caseworker for Willow Lodge. This nightshift position provides safe support care for adults staying at the shelter, under the supervision of the Program Manager.

You will handle intake, care and discharge of guests, ensure comprehension of program guidelines, deliver crisis support, connect participants to community resources, and maintain confidentiality while role-modeling calm, respectful problem-solving.

Qualifications

  • Education: Saskatchewan Polytechnic, Community Colleges, or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 1 year practical experience with homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, or child welfare.
  • Assets: First Aid, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered assets.

About the role

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, or designate, the Caseworker will provide safe support care for adults staying at the shelter. This is a nightshift position, as the shelter operates outside of classic business hours.

What you'll do

Caseworker duties include the following responsibilities:

  • Intake, care and discharge of shelter guests.
  • Ensure program guests understand and follow program guidelines and expectations.
  • Provide acute intensive case management from a shelter guest centred lens.
  • Connect participants to community supports.
  • Provide acute stabilization and crisis support for shelter guests.
  • Role model positive behaviour and encourage and assist participants to practice self-help and non-violent problem-solving skills.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned/needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Other Requirements

  • The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of working in a residential home environment while providing quality support to youth. This position requires the ability to safely lift and carry laundry, groceries, household items, and other materials as part of daily responsibilities.
  • The role involves a combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the workday, with regular movement between tasks and client support activities. Candidates must be comfortable climbing stairs, performing general housekeeping duties, making beds, accessing storage areas, and completing seasonal outdoor tasks such as yard maintenance and snow removal.
  • The position also requires the ability to push, pull, bend, crouch, and perform other physical movements necessary to maintain a safe, clean, and supportive home environment. Successful candidates will possess the physical stamina, mobility, and flexibility to safely perform the essential duties of the position while meeting the daily needs of the youth they support.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Secondary education from Saskatchewan Polytechnic or Community Colleges or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 1 year of practical experience working with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues including homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare

Practical Experience:

  • Working knowledge and experience with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues, including: homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare system.
  • Working with a range of diverse clients, indiscriminate of: age, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, socio-economic status, religious preference, etc.

Other:

  • First Aid, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered an asset.
  • Valid / Insurable Saskatchewan Driver’s License, insurable to drive clients in JHSS-owned vehicles.
  • Cleared Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, completed three (3) months prior to start date.

Capability:

  • Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Requires flexibility and should be able to work varying shifts
