REPORTS TO: Housing First Program Manager
HOURS: Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm, Temporary Full-time - 1 year contract

Reporting to the Housing First Program Manager, the Housing First Caseworker ensures that individuals referred to the Housing First Program receive proper assessment of their housing needs and living situations. The Housing First Caseworker works in partnership with landlords from the public and private sector to ensure that individuals and families find appropriate, safe and affordable housing.

Position ResponsibilitiesProgram Support- Deliver and maintain the Housing First program under BSCS core values.
- Work with community partners to connect with referrals received from Homeward Trust’s Coordinated Access.
- Work in partnership with both the private and non-profit sector of the housing market to ensure appropriate placement of participants.
- Coordinate housing of participants by facilitating furniture delivery, set up of utilities, tenant insurance, purchasing household items and food, and other related duties.
- Network and build positive relationships with landlords.
- Housing a minimum of 4 participants per month and carrying a caseload of 10 participants.
- Maintain regular meetings with participants until they are housed and transferred to a Follow up Support Worker.
- Ensure that all necessary paperwork including (but not limited to) the lease agreement and move in report are completed once housing is secured.
- Facilitate meetings with Follow Up Support Workers and Team Lead with the participant once housed.
- Identify and assess referrals to inform the assigned Follow Up Support Worker.
Administration- Ensure participants are fully informed of their obligations while in the Housing First Program and all program documentation is completed, signed, and uploaded to Efforts To Outcome (ETO).
- Maintain detailed documentation within 48 hours of interactions and other program administration as outlined by funders.
- Ensure all financial documents are filled completely and accurately on time and approved by leadership.
- BSCS is more than a workplace. It is a community where everyone helps and contributes to the whole, and there is an expectation that all employees will take part in events (during the work week and occasionally during weekends and evenings), including fundraising campaigns, running community meals, medicine picking, etc.
- All other duties as outlined by program manager.
Miscellaneous- Attend Community of Practice meetings with the funder.
- Respond to overdoses and other related crisis by following the proper processes.
- Participate in Housing team meetings, reflections, and team building events.
- Assist in providing short-term housing supports with BSCS partners.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Team Lead and/or Manager.
Qualifications- Post-Secondary degree in a relevant field (Human Services, Social Sciences or Social Work) and/or relevant work experience.
- Some experience in human services, or in the inner-city area preferred.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers License & access to a reliable personal vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance.
- Police Check with the Vulnerable Sector and Child and Youth Intervention Check completed within the past six months.
- Valid First Aid certificate or enrolled in a future course.
- Experience with and knowledge of Indigenous culture and ceremonies is considered an asset.
