Job summary

UGM in Vancouver is seeking a dedicated Case Manager to serve the hungry, hurting and homeless at the Hastings Facility. Build relationships, advocate for clients, and guide them through housing, health and social services. This is a temporary, full-time role (37.5 hours).

The starting wage range is CAD 28.96 to CAD 31.64 per hour, with a comprehensive employer-paid benefits package including RRSP matching and education assistance, plus flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in social work or related post-secondary education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide case management for tenants residing at UGM’s housing.

Job Summary

This position involves ministering to the hungry, hurting and homeless men and women living in the neighborhood of the Hastings Facility. ‘Ministering’ entails forming relationships, loving, praying, declaring the good news of Jesus Christ and making disciples as well as assisting the community members with material needs, access to services, and advocating for social justice. The Case Manager’s primary task involves working with clients to set goals help them move forward by providing care and support through the continuum of care. This may include making referrals for housing, clothing, shelter, recovery and a wide variety of other sundry duties as dictated by the needs of the individuals we serve. The work will be based out of the Hastings Facility; from time to time the Case Manager may assist UGM at other locations.

This is a temporary, full-time (37.5 hours) position. The starting range for this position is $28.96 to $31.64.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Model Christ in word and deed.
• 45% - Case Management

• Provide support, care, direct consultation to community members that reside at UGM’s permanent housing and program housing as well as making appropriate referrals to external services. Build strong relationships with community members.
• Assist tenants in establishing goals, monitoring progress, and preparing a case plan for their next steps (tenancy, employment, health services, life skills, education or other case specific needs) and refer them to the appropriate community resources for achieving these goals. Support other staff in determination of program eligibility.
• Document all relevant case notes and maintain accurate case files and records for future reference. Advocate for community members, providing needs assessments, coaching, skills training and crisis management.
• Create partnerships and utilize community resources.
• Coordinate access to supports and services such as physical and mental health, ID, government and other community services by making appropriate referrals and assistance with forms and applications.
• Assessing individuals’ independence and daily living needs

• 25% - Program Coordination

• Coordinate and support programming for tenants at MMP and Hastings House. Assist in building social cohesion and engagement between tenants in the buildings through effective and coherent programming.
• Coordinate volunteers in running programming to engage in community building.
• Skills building workshops: Cleaning, budgeting, cooking, scams, etc.

• 20% - Tenant Support

• Collaborate with Tenant Relations Manager on tenant interviews and offers of tenancy decisions.
• Supporting tenants, liaising with landlord in issues and addressing them for best outcome.
• Provide practical support for tenants in addressing issues with
• Conflict resolution skills as well as tenant conflict resolution skills.
• Assist tenants to avoid eviction, resolve issues related to tenancy.
• Supporting tenants as they work towards collective care and action in the community.

• 5 % - Participate in staff meetings, training and development opportunities.

• 5% - Perform other duties as required by your supervisor. Lead Bible studies and devotions as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Personal knowledge and experience of the saving work of Jesus Christ.
• Able to maintain confidentiality, ethically, regarding sensitive matters regarding the organization and its clientele.
• Experience working in a community organization, foundation or ministry.
• Experience dealing with complex matters.
• 2-3 years of related work experience is required, with knowledge of issues related to poverty and addiction.
• Working knowledge of Anti-Oppressive and Decolonial Practices.
• Bachelor’s in social work or other related post-secondary education preferred.
• Consideration may be given to alternate combinations of lived experience and education.

  • Solid understanding of health and safety protocols specific to program/shelter environments, including infection control, personal hygiene standards, and safe handling of potential hazards.
  • Previous experience working in environments with vulnerable or high-needs populations, with an emphasis on creating a safe and supportive atmosphere for residents.
  • Completed, or willing to complete, relevant health and safety training, including nonviolent crisis intervention: handling mental health crises and de-escalation, first aid, naloxone, suicide prevention or specialized safety courses.

Working Conditions

• Work Location

Work is generally performed indoors, with up to 30% of the time spent outdoors in all types of weather.

• Physical Requirements

Duties require extended periods of standing and/ or walking. Duties require occasional periods of climbing, pulling/pushing items, lifting/carrying items, keyboarding, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Employees are required to look at a computer screen for up to 75% of the time. Must be able to lift up to 50lbs occasionally.

• Work Conditions

Working environment is generally favorable. Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is performed amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises. Regular environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water. This position is required to work in an environment often dealing with clients in crisis situations brought about by diverse problems. The ability to function independently and frequently under pressure, while managing multiple concurrent tasks including emergency situations is an ongoing expectation of this position.
