Qualifications

We're hiring: CASA Classroom Teacher

Are you passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences for students with diverse academic, behavioural, and mental health needs? Sturgeon Public Schools is seeking a temporary CASA Mental Health Service Classroom Teacher to join the team at Guthrie School.

This role provides an opportunity to work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and mental health professionals in a specialized learning environment that supports the whole student.

Located on CFB Edmonton Garrison military base, Guthrie School is just minutes north of Edmonton and St. Albert. The school serves approximately 300 students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 9 with a team of 40 staff. Guthrie is known for fostering critical thinking, engagement, and creativity in problem-solving, while providing students with the skills and knowledge they need to reach their full potential.

Students experiencing mental health challenges may face barriers that affect their ability to engage and succeed at school. As a CASA Mental Health Service Classroom Teacher, you play an important role in creating a supportive learning environment where students can build confidence, develop skills, and experience academic success. Through individualized programming, strength-based instruction, and collaboration with the broader CASA team, you help students recognize their strengths and build pathways toward their goals

What You'll Be Doing
  • Design and deliver individualized academic programming based on student strengths, needs, and goals.

  • Implement effective classroom management and behaviour support strategies.
  • Develop and implement individualized programming and behaviour support plans as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with teachers, mental health professionals, families, and other members of the CASA classroom team.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, supportive environment focused on student growth and well-being.

What You Bring
  • Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Experience providing differentiated instruction to students with diverse learning needs in a specialized learning environment.
  • Experience teaching Language Arts and Mathematics at the elementary, junior high, and/or senior high level.
  • Experience developing and implementing individualized programming plans (IPPs) is preferred.
  • Experience with classroom management, behaviour modification, and Individual Behaviour Support Plans (IBSPs).
  • Knowledge of academic, behavioural, and psychoeducational assessment practices.
  • Understanding of Response to Intervention (RTI) models and social-emotional learning.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to use creative, solution-focused approaches to support student needs.
  • Adaptability, empathy, and sound professional judgment.
