SYSTRA Canada, a leader in transport infrastructure consulting, is seeking a Cartographer to coordinate the production of high-quality cartographic outputs for the ALTO high-speed rail project. You will lead standards, ensure accuracy, and deliver bilingual maps across internal teams, clients, and public initiatives.

The role emphasizes ArcGIS Pro-based map creation, templates, and cross-team collaboration, with data from CAD, GIS, and remote sensing sources.

Qualificações

• Diploma or Bachelor’s in Geography, Cartography, GIS or equivalent.
• 7–10 years of professional cartography/GIS experience; transport/infrastructure asset.
• Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Pro for thematic mapping and layouts.
• Strong knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise and/or ArcGIS Online for data sharing and collaboration.
• Experience creating/managing cartographic templates, symbology libraries, and map workflows.
• Experience handling data from CAD, GIS, tabular, and remote sensing sources.
• Solid understanding of cartographic design principles: colour, typography, readability, layout, hierarchy.
• Clear verbal and written communication in French and English.

Missions/Main Duties

As part of the GIS team supporting the Alto project, the Cartographer is responsible for coordinating the production of high-quality cartographic deliverables and ensuring consistency, accuracy, and visual excellence across all map products. This role supports consultation, analysis, and decision-making for major transportation infrastructure projects by combining advanced cartographic expertise with quality assurance oversight, template standardization, and close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

The successful candidate will lead the development and application of cartographic standards, oversee the review and quality control of map outputs, and produce clear, visually effective thematic and analytical maps for internal teams, clients, and public-facing initiatives. The role is primarily based in ArcGIS Pro, with data accessed and shared through ArcGIS Enterprise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Produce high-quality maps in ArcGIS Pro for consultation, analysis, planning, and project decisions.
• Coordinate GIS mapping priorities, schedules, standards, and quality reviews.
• Apply cartographic design and accessibility principles to create clear, accurate, consistent, and bilingual deliverables.
• Prepare spatial data from ArcGIS Enterprise and other sources, including basic data conversion, cleanup, and georeferencing.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, publish maps through ArcGIS Enterprise, and improve workflows while supporting team members.

Profile/Skills

Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, GIS, Geomatics, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Years of experience: 7 to 10 years of professional experience in cartographic production, GIS mapping, thematic map creation, or a related role. Experience in transportation or infrastructure projects is considered a strong asset.

• Advanced proficiency in ArcGIS Pro for thematic mapping, layout design, cartographic styling, annotation, labeling, and map production.
• Good working knowledge of ArcGIS Enterprise and/or ArcGIS Online for accessing data, sharing layers, and supporting collaboration across teams.
• Demonstrated experience creating and managing cartographic templates, symbology libraries, layout standards, and map production workflows.
• Strong experience working with data from multiple formats, including CAD, GIS, tabular, and remote sensing sources, and preparing those datasets for cartographic use.
• Strong understanding of cartographic design principles, including colour usage, typography, readability, composition, and visual hierarchy.
• Experience reviewing and validating cartographic outputs to ensure compliance with established technical and visual standards.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills, both in French and in English*
