Job description

Compensation: $30-$34 per hour (full-time / permanent)

Carpenter (Multi-Skilled Tradesperson)

Carpenters at On Side rebuild and restore damaged personal property anywhere and anytime a disaster strikes. With the goal of getting things back to a pre-disaster state, Multi-Skilled Tradespeople use the skills of carpenters, drywallers, painters, and more! Making clients believe magic has happened is all part of a day for a Multi-Skilled Tradesperson.

The multi-talented Carpenter is skilled in the following ways:

  • Rough and trim
  • Drywall repairs: drywalling, taping, mudding, sanding, and finishing
  • Brush and roller painting (could include walls, ceilings, trim)
  • Ceiling installation, knockdown, and texturing
  • Insulation and vapour barrier installation
  • Doors
  • Trim, moldings, and baseboards
  • Cabinetry
  • Repairs to wooden structures of all sorts
  • Framing

What you bring

The Multi-Skilled Tradesperson brings a host of abilities to their work, not the least being a ‘get it done!’ attitude. Additional abilities required include:

  • Interior carpentry repairs
  • Leadership to guide helpers and train less experienced workers
  • Ability to work well alone or in a team
  • Experience working in construction environments
  • Tools and the skills to use them
  • Strong people and communication skills
  • Attention to detail, passion for quality, and pride in the work you do
  • Interest in cross-training
  • Ability to work later than scheduled when needed, including travelling out of town
  • A safety mindset
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to pass a criminal record check
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • Clean-shaven face when notified (if applicable) for full face mask fits

Other stuff that’ll help you be successful but isn’t mandatory:

  • Skilled trades ticket (Carpenter, Painter, Cabinetmaker)
  • IICRC certification (restoration focus)
  • WHMIS
  • First Aid

Of Note

Disasters can strike at any time, so a rotating schedule of 24/7 after-hours on-call work is a requirement.
