Carpenter - Journeyman

Position Overview

Reporting to the divisional Production Manager, the Carpenter - Journeyman works within our restoration division. They must hold a valid Journeyman or Red Seal certification and have an advanced understanding of carpentry fundamentals in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

Job Duties

1. Will demonstrate skills in the safe operation of hand and power tools, to include (but not limited to) temporary generators, ladders, table saws, routers, and sanding equipment.
2. Erect and disassemble scaffolding.
3. Assist with demolition and debris disposal.
4. Experienced in preparing material take-offs and reading blueprints.
5. Set up and take down of poly containment and drop sheets to accommodate work.
6. Highly knowledgeable in building code and construction math.
7. Experienced in installation of insulation materials and vapour barrier.
8. Advanced experience in wood and steel stud framing application.
9. Advanced experience in finish carpentry skills including cutting and installing wood framing, trim, baseboard, casing, doors, frames, and sheathing.
10. Secure exterior building materials (roofing and siding).
11. Will construct and install secure temporary and permanent partitions.
12. Will practice good housekeeping at all times to ensure a safe and non-cluttered worksite.
13. Provide excellent customer service.
14. Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines.
15. Ensure attention to detail and keen sense of safeguarding other people’s property and information.
16. Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment, including safe operation of machines and equipment.
17. Comply with all Belfor policies and procedures, as well as legislative requirements.
18. Proactively communicate job site conditions and concerns that may or are affecting completion of the job to the appropriate person.
19. This role could be required to act as a “lead” periodically as designated by their manager.
20. Attend all Belfor sponsored training courses.

Qualifications

1. Journeyman or Red Seal certification required.
2. 4+ years’ experience in the field.
3. Knowledgeable in the use and application of tools and materials for job completion.
4. Construction / Restoration / Insurance experience required.
5. Comprehensive understanding of customer service principles and practices.
6. Eligible to operate a motor vehicle per Belfor’s vehicle policy.
7. Ability to work within a team or independently as needed.
8. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
9. Proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
10. Basic computer and/or tablet/iPad experience.
11. Willing to work evenings, on call, and weekends when requested.
12. Periodic travel may be required.
13. Criminal Record Check.

Physical Demands

1. Frequent lifting from 5-40 lbs, unassisted (from 35-65% of the time).
2. Occasional lifting from 41 lbs +, assisted (up to 50% of the time).
3. Access and mobility in tight spaces.
4. Fit Testing – half and full face mask as needed, annual certification required.
5. Working at Heights - over 5 feet, periodically.
6. Sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling.
