Job description

First General Services is looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a permanent full time Carpenter

Job Duties:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install trim items such as doors, stairs, moldings and hardware
  • Secure building materials when required
  • Ability to sketch job sites with proper measurements
  • Willing to work evenings on call and weekends when required
  • Understand concepts of carpentry needed to build and renovate in residential and commercial locations
  • Able to work with all carpentry tools

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities:

  • Indoor and outdoor work
  • Handling heavy loads, repetitive tasks, tight deadlines, working under pressure, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling, standing for long periods of time
  • Working at heights over 5′ periodically when required
