Duties

A Carpenter at the Department of National Defence (DND) in Halifax is responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining wooden structures and fixtures across various DND facilities, including buildings, docks, and hangars. Their duties include framing, drywall installation, cabinetry, and finishing work, as well as performing routine inspections and responding to urgent maintenance requests. They collaborate with other trades on multidisciplinary projects, ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations, and operate a range of hand and power tools. Carpenters are also expected to follow safe work practices, maintain tools and equipment, and complete documentation such as work orders and maintenance logs to support operational readiness and infrastructure integrity.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to create a pool of candidates to fill two (2) vacancies in an indeterminate (permanent) basis in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

A pool of partially or essentially qualified candidates may be established through this process and used to staff identical or similar positions with various employment tenures (temporary and permanent), operational requirements, and conditions of employment at the Department of National Defence, in Halifax only.

COE1: Must possess and maintain a Red Seal Certification

COE2: Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Class 5 driver’s license issued by the Province of Nova Scotia or provincial/territorial equivalent
