Job Description:
The Facility Maintenance Carpenter is responsible for corrective and preventive maintenance on all CN properties. This role involves extensive travel within the assigned territory and requires strong carpentry skills and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on CN facilities and structures
  • Prioritize tasks and manage workload effectively
  • Respond to emergency repairs as needed

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Must be able to work overtime when responding to critical incidents
  • Requires extensive travel (80%) within the assigned territory, including overnight stays
  • Must be physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs

Qualifications:

  • Valid Red Seal certification as a Journeyman Carpenter
  • Valid Class G driver’s license
  • Ability to qualify for Non-Main Track Operating Rules Certification
  • Certification or willingness to obtain:
  • Emergency First Aid
  • CPR
  • Fall Arrest
  • Working at Heights
  • Aerial Work Platforms
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Skilled in layout and maintenance of commercial buildings
  • Strong knowledge of carpentry and construction, including:
  • Wood/steel framing, concrete forming and pouring
  • Flooring, siding, drywall, drop ceilings, painting
  • Door hardware installation and maintenance
  • Blueprint reading and line diagrams
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code
  • Understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building envelope systems (any experience or education in these areas is considered an asset)

Training:
This role includes a 3-month probationary period, during which the employee will be evaluated on skills, competency, and completion of all required training and certifications.
