Overview

As a Career Preparation Coordinator, you will facilitate the Career Preparation course, coordinate practicum placements, and coach students on their employment journey. Reporting to the Workforce Team Leads, you will engage with students early in their programs, guiding them toward meaningful employment during and after their studies. Your role includes coaching, mentoring, and supporting learners in career development, as well as coordinating practicums for those who have not yet secured employment in their field. Building strong relationships with students and industry partners will be key to your success.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the Career Preparation course in Brightspace (D2L), coaching and guiding students to develop the skills and knowledge required to conduct themselves professionally during practicum placements.
  • Support students and graduates in creating strong résumés and cover letters, and provide interview preparation through various methods (phone, web, email, in person).
  • Coach graduates on effective job search strategies and prepare them to interview confidently and professionally in their chosen field.
  • Perform departmental duties as required, including reporting and supporting student/graduate employment initiatives.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with prospective employers, practicum hosts, recruiting agencies, job centers, and public/private sector organizations.
  • Research and recommend agencies or organizations that meet Robertson College’s practicum requirements.
  • Deliver a 100% practicum placement rate and strive to achieve training-related employment outcomes aligned with College expectations.
  • Provide career advice and resources, helping students and graduates identify strengths, overcome employment barriers, and develop job readiness, job search, and long-term career management skills.
Qualifications
  • A genuine positive interest in being a mentor, coach, guide and advocate for our students.
  • Experience in customer service and/or post-secondary education setting.
  • An understanding of careers within healthcare, business, community services and technology is an asset.
  • Experience with Brightspace, D2L is an asset.
  • Entry-level experience in job readiness coaching (recruitment/hiring process, job search, interview preparation, resume/cover letters) and an eager willingness to develop these skills through team training opportunities, and how Robertson College provides these services to students/grads.
  • Passion and ability to promote Robertson graduates to practicum and employer partners.
  • Knowledgeable about the Canadian labour market.
  • Strong relationship-building and networking skills.
  • An understanding of the needs of a diverse student population and how to interact effectively with a multicultural student body.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize work, and coordinate tasks to meet results in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Work location: In-person Winnipeg, Calgary or Edmonton
