SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Program Manager: Career Paths and with the support of the job search advisor, the Career Advisor is responsible for all aspects of service delivery to the Participants on their caseload.
The employment counsellor assesses the Participant’s eligibility, provides all career assessment and planning services, refers to skill enhancement services, and coordinates workplace practice opportunities with the job developer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand the Program Service Levels and Performance Measures document in the Contract;
- Understand the eligibility criteria set by the Ministry and conduct eligibility assessments with all Participants prior to program acceptance;
- Conduct information sessions to provide Participants with an orientation to and information about the program and assessment process;
- Maintain up-to-date databases and Participant file content;
- Conduct and/or coordinate comprehensive assessments to develop a career action plan and career portfolio, including assessments of essential skills, transferable skills, language, financial means, vocational and education background, and technical skills;
- Develop Career Portfolios and Individualized Career Action Plans to identify strengths, address skills gaps, and enhance Participant employability in the transportation or construction industry;
- Coordinate internal and external skill enhancement services and manage enrollment and payment processes;
- Develop and facilitate workshops for groups of Participants;
- Provide vocational counselling to guide, coach, and support Participants to increase confidence and capacity for employment-related activities;
- Perform day-to-day case management and administrative duties, including documentation, report writing, meeting timelines, and maintaining relationships with employers and service providers;
- Participate in all program-related meetings;
- Provide ongoing feedback to the Program Manager regarding program delivery;
- Willingness to participate in Wellness Committees;
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience working with immigrant populations and understanding employment barriers faced by immigrants;
- At least two years of employment counselling experience if holding a Bachelor’s degree;
- Certified Career Development Practitioner (CCDP) preferred;
- Proficient with Excel.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) or
- Career Development Practitioner Diploma;
Memberships & Associations:
- Membership in the Western Canada Career Development Association (WCCDA) preferred.
