Job summary

Interior Health Authority in Nakusp and New Denver, BC is seeking experienced Care Aides to join our long-term care teams on a casual basis. You will work as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team, under the direction of RN’s and LPN’s, providing care that supports residents' physical, emotional, and social needs while promoting independence.

Casual roles offer flexible hours at both sites with no guaranteed hours, ranging from 0–37.5 hours per week on an as-needed basis, and include

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with personal care and activities of daily living
  • Assisting with mobility, transfers and related equipment
  • Performing nursing procedures such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration
  • Housekeeping activities relating to maintaining a safe and healthy environment
  • Observing and reporting changes in patient behavior and condition
  • Accompanying clients on outings and during social activities
  • Performing clerical duties and delegated tasks

About The Job

As the Care Aide you will work as an integral part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team, who provide care and support in a long-term care setting. Working under the direction of RN’s and LPN’s, Care Aide’s have key responsibilities in the individual care plan for each patient, ensuring their physical, emotional and social needs are supported, while promoting maximum independence.

Typical Duties Include
  • Assisting with personal care and activities of daily living
  • Assisting with mobility, transfers and related equipment
  • Performing nursing procedures such as taking temperature, pulse and respiration
  • Housekeeping activities relating to maintaining a safe and healthy environment
  • Observing and reporting changes in patient behavior and condition
  • Accompanying clients on outings and during social activities
  • Performing clerical duties and delegated tasks
We have Casual opportunities available at both sites: Minto House (Nakusp) and The Pavilion (New Denver). Casual Employees are not guaranteed hours of work and can range from 0-37.5 hours per week on an as-needed basis.
About this Location

Minto House, located in Nakusp, embodies a resident-centered philosophy designed to support residents’ choices, help people function at their highest level, and provide the best quality of life possible. This facility is one storey with 14 residential beds, and a private bathroom in each room. We also have recreation activities daily, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy available based on client need and a Rehab Assistant available daily for the walking program, exercise and assessments.

The Pavilion, located in New Denver, is a residential facility attached to the 24/7 Emergency Unit and physicians' offices. Our resident-centred philosophy is designed to support residents’ choices, help people function at their highest level and provide the best quality of life possible. The facility is one storey with six private rooms and 10 semi-private (double occupancy) rooms with stunning views of the mountains and lake. Our Recreational Program Coordinator is on site 5 days/week as well as a Rehabilitation Assistant on site for walking, balance and strength classes. The Physiotherapist and occupational therapist see residents regularly as needed as well and we have a van on site for outings with the residents.
